COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS 2017-2018
A meeting with the High School counselor is required for anyone
considering taking college courses during the 2017-2018 school year.
Over 200 people have already attended both the initial and make up
meetings. College Credit Plus, the State of Ohio's replacement for the
Post Secondary Options and Dual Enrollment Programs, will be explained
in their entirety and applications will be available at the annual
meeting to be held Tuesday January 31, 2017. The
absolute deadline for all application materials is a firm April 1, 2017,
regardless of whether the student is taking courses first or second
semester. Liberty Center students may also attend the CCP meeting at Holgate High School
Activities Recommended for Class of 2017
Students who will graduate in 2017 are strongly encouraged to visit a
minimum of 3 to 5 colleges as soon as possible. Students should select a
variety of colleges to visit, for example at least one large Division I
institution, one small private institution, one mid sized public
institution, etc. Most students find that a visit provides a subjective
experience that simply can't be captured by a brochure or a website.
Many seniors will find it difficult to find time for college visits
after the school year begins. Group visits have already been scheduled
for the class of 2017 at The University of Toledo on September 20th and
Defiance College on September 13th.
Incoming seniors and their parents should also contact Ms. Ahleman to schedule a senior planning meeting (see below).
Each senior should strive to apply to 3 to 5 colleges by October 1,
2016. It is not necessary to decide which college to attend prior to applying. However, it
is very wise to select a pool of at least 3 to 5 colleges to apply to.
There is no limit to how many colleges one can apply. Typically, the
more the better. The Common Application
is accepted by more than 500 colleges and universities in the United
States. While the application is lengthy and time consuming, it does
allow the student to apply to numerous colleges at once. Click here to visit the Common Application website. The Common App for 2017-2018 should be available the first week of August 2016.
Keep an eye on the guidance webpage, particularly starting in October, for scholarship opportunities!
SENIORS AND THEIR PARENTS INVITED TO SCHEDULE SENIOR PLANNING MEETINGS
LCHS seniors and their parents are invited to schedule senior
planning meetings with Ms. Ahleman. Most meetings last approximately one
hour and allow students and their parents to conduct a senior credit
audit, discuss the college and scholarship application process, and
financial aid resources. Students who are considering skilled trade
programs are also encouraged to schedule an appointment. Schedule your
appointment by contacting Ms. Ahleman at
firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 419-533-6403.
